Remove the screws using the pentalobe screwdriver

Switch the power off and make sure you have the right tools (see guide below). You also need a new replacement screen. If you wear spectacles, grab your glasses! Without these essentials you can’t complete this cell phone repair.

Use your pentalobe screwdriver to remove the screws at the base of your phone – either side of the power charging port.

Apply the suction cup to the screen

Attach the suction cup to the screen.  Gently but firmly lift up. It’s easier to hold the phone down with 1 hand. Open the phone up.

Use the spudger if necessary

Tip: if you’re finding it difficult to open the phone up. Use the suction cup to lift. At the same time use your plastic spudger to gently split the screen from the frame. Then gently tease the screen and phone apart.

Remove the screws attaching the battery connector

The screen needs to be pulled back. Be careful not to pull it too far. This is because the cables are still attached. Take out the next 3 screws, including the 2 screws that are holding the battery connector down.

Remove the battery connector

The battery connector shield is now loose. Remove the 3 screws and keep them safe. Now take the shield out.

Disconnect the logic board

Using the case opener tool, disconnect the battery. Above that you will find the cables connecting the LCD, digitzer and the front board assembly. They all need to be disconnected from the logic board.

Unscrew the cable bracket

Remove the 5 different screws holding the cable bracket in place. There are 3 x 1.2mm phillips screws; 1 x 1.5mm phillips screw; 1 x 12.9mm phillips screw

Remove the cable bracket

Remove the cable bracket from your device.

Remove the camera/earpiece speaker cable

Carefully prise up the cable connector. Do not prise up the socket the connector is attached to. This will damage your phone.

Remove the home button cable

Carefully prise up the cable connector. Do not prise up the socket the connector is attached to. This will damage your phone.

Remove the display cable

Carefully prise up the cable connector. Do not prise up the socket the connector is attached to. This will damage your phone.

Remove the digitizer cable

Carefully prise up the cable connector. Do not prise up the socket the connector is attached to. This will damage your phone.

Remove the screen

All of the required procedures to enable you to remove the screen have been completed. It is now safe to remove the damaged screen. If it is cracked be careful!

Start to remove the battery adhesive strips

Carefully peel back the right hand side adhesive strip at the bottom of the battery.

Caution: be careful as damaging a lithium ion battery can be very dangerous.

Remove the plastic washer

Peel back the right hand adhesive tab. Pull it down and resist the need to pull it against the battery. This can rip the adhesive tab.

Keep pulling the tab. You will feel it slide out from under the battery. Once it is fully out you will feel increased resistance. Once the increased resistance is felt move on to the next step.

Sometimes the adhesive tab can rip. If this happens try to catch the end and pull it out.

If you can’t get the tab then you can heat the case of the phone gently with a hairdryer. This will melt the adhesive and help you remove the battery.

Pull the adhesive tab around the corner

Now you need to pull the stretched tab around the bottom corner of the iPhone battery. Eventually the strip will come free of the iPhone.

Now repeat the last step and this step for the left hand side adhesive tab.

Caution: do this slowly and don’t pull the tab too hard. You don’t want it to snap during this process.

Prise the battery off the iPhone 6

You need to use a thin plastic card. Push this under the side of the battery. Carefully work the battery free from the case. The battery adhesive should be loose. You should now be able to remove the battery.
